This week's show went surprisingly well, considering how tired I was. I'm a sleep hoarder, especially on Wednesday nights, as I have to wake up just before 4am on Thursdays to make it to the station by 6am. I get up that early so that I have time to eat breakfast and get ready for work, which happens right after my radio show ends.

On this particular Wednesday night, I drove up to Philly to disassemble and purchase a gigantic Ikea wardrobe. See the pretty picture? That's it. The next morning, I was very tired, but managed to find some great new music at the station. The new Gomez album has several promising tracks. I especially love the song, "Woman! Man!" Click here and scroll down to listen to samples of the songs, especially "Woman! Man!". The album won't be available for purchase until May, but we have it at the station and I'll play it to death.

"Woman! Man!" sounds like a delicious combination of everything you ever loved about Squeeze's glorious, tight, melodic pop sensibility, mixed with the laid-back, shuffle-beat goodness of the one or two Grateful Dead songs that I actually liked. (I sincerely apologize to Dead fans. I simply don't dig that band very much, save for one or two songs. I also never understood the fascination with some of their bootlegs, as the ones I heard sounded drunken and the harmonies were sloppy. Feel free to school me on the Dead, as I'd love a reason to like them, other than the song Box of Rain.)

Steve Klinge, a wonderful music reviewer and DJ at my station, WVUD, let me know that the band Phoenix is coming to Philly in May. You may recognize Phoenix as a band that I play regularly. I especially love the songs "Run Run Run," "If I Ever Feel Better," and "Too Young," all of which you can listen to on Phoenix's MySpace page. This band is French Pop goodness and will appeal to you if you like precision and playfullness mixed together. I also highly recommend the French pop band, Tahiti 80. My favorite album of theirs is Wallpaper for the Soul, from 2002. I play almost all of the tracks from that album on my show.
