Just Pack!

Superego:For the love of all things loveable, why aren't you packing? Fill the boxes, Sarah! Do it!

Id:I will, I will. Get off my back. I just ate breakfast. So what if I want to update my blog for just a few minutes before I lose internet access for several days during the move? So what? Oh, would you look at these - pictures of my old dog! Remember how nice it was when she'd eat her dinner and her tags would clang against her bowl? So cute. And that little sound she used to make when --

Superego:Pack! Put stuff in the boxes! No updatey! No doggie! Packy!

Panda

Oh, children, I do apologize. I am not doing a show this week. Instead, this Thursday morning, you'll hear Gary, who has graciously offered to fill in for me while I pack and panic. He normally does the Roots show on Mondays, from 8:30am to 11am, but is invaluable to the station in several ways beyond that. He is also a master of puns. I know not what he'll play for you, but he is kindly and you'll find him pleasant. As long as he doesn't play that Crispin Glover album all the way through.

I'm not sure if Gary will play my sort of poppish rockish music or if he will go more Rootsie. If he tries for my genre, I hope he plays Grand National, a spiffy band from London. I'm hooked on their song "Drink to Moving On". I had this perfect "they sound like blah but with a bit of blah" kind of description of them that I've forgotten. If I remember it, I'll post it here. Suffice to say, they're polished sounding, almost cold, but still entertaining. Maybe they remind me a little bit of Phoenix mixed with some Erlend Øye. It's not difficult to think of these two musical entities being related to one another, as their sounds can be similar. Erlend Øye even remixed a Phoenix song called "If I Ever Feel Better" (Listen to the original here on Phoenix's MySpace page)on his 2004 album, DJ Kicks.

I hope you enjoy your Thursday, folks. I'll continue to clean out my apartment. I'll be on the air next week.

In my show's stead, please enjoy this picture of a panda eating bamboo near his hammock. He's in Atlanta, Georgia.

Beans Don't Burn on the Grill

I'm moving this weekend. Things feel hectic. I'll devote a post soon to the new place, complete with pictures. It's going to be groovy.

This morning, I carried down all of my recycling to my car. I had two boxes of Pellegrino bottles (don't judge me) in my arms as I approached my apartment building's enormous and heavy front door. Balancing on one foot (I'd need the other to hold open the door) and holding the boxes in one arm, I pulled the door open, and my watch fell to the floor. Losing my balance and hoping to not smash my watch, I brought my foot down. Into the waste basket. I managed to step on the watch anyway, with my other foot. Thanks, Lucy.

The move to Philadelphia is exciting and overwhelming, just as moving anywhere is. Wish me luck. I'm registered at Wachovia, so feel free to get me any of the housewarming gifts on my list:
-$5,000
-$10,000
-$20,000
or, my personal favorite,
-$300,000.

No Time Left on Earth

I wish guys could pull off holding little doggies in pouches. I really do. But, clearly, they can't.

Today's show was fun and hectic. The phones were wacky, the cue channels didn't work, and I THINK I FOUND A SPLIT END.

I have much to report on the fabulous band the Rondo Brothers and will be playing two new remixes from their album No Time Left on Earth on next week's show.

I've also made the scans of my playlists a little larger. Let me know if that helps you decipher my messy handwriting.

More later, Sportsfans!

The Lion, the Witch, and Philadelphia

Log for first half of April 6th, 2006 show

Log for second half of April 6th, 2006 show

This week's show went surprisingly well, considering how tired I was. I'm a sleep hoarder, especially on Wednesday nights, as I have to wake up just before 4am on Thursdays to make it to the station by 6am. I get up that early so that I have time to eat breakfast and get ready for work, which happens right after my radio show ends.

On this particular Wednesday night, I drove up to Philly to disassemble and purchase a gigantic Ikea wardrobe. See the pretty picture? That's it. The next morning, I was very tired, but managed to find some great new music at the station. The new Gomez album has several promising tracks. I especially love the song, "Woman! Man!" Click here and scroll down to listen to samples of the songs, especially "Woman! Man!". The album won't be available for purchase until May, but we have it at the station and I'll play it to death.

"Woman! Man!" sounds like a delicious combination of everything you ever loved about Squeeze's glorious, tight, melodic pop sensibility, mixed with the laid-back, shuffle-beat goodness of the one or two Grateful Dead songs that I actually liked. (I sincerely apologize to Dead fans. I simply don't dig that band very much, save for one or two songs. I also never understood the fascination with some of their bootlegs, as the ones I heard sounded drunken and the harmonies were sloppy. Feel free to school me on the Dead, as I'd love a reason to like them, other than the song Box of Rain.)

Steve Klinge, a wonderful music reviewer and DJ at my station, WVUD, let me know that the band Phoenix is coming to Philly in May. You may recognize Phoenix as a band that I play regularly. I especially love the songs "Run Run Run," "If I Ever Feel Better," and "Too Young," all of which you can listen to on Phoenix's MySpace page. This band is French Pop goodness and will appeal to you if you like precision and playfullness mixed together. I also highly recommend the French pop band, Tahiti 80. My favorite album of theirs is Wallpaper for the Soul, from 2002. I play almost all of the tracks from that album on my show.
