Manchester's a very entertaining author. His books on Churchill are mesmerizing, for example. Alas, he passed away before he could write the third in that trilogy.
If you like "World Without Fire," you might enjoy Norwich's "The Middle Sea" which I read this summer - ancient history turns out to be a lot more interesting than I was led to believe back in school.
